Ans- i. Hearing the musical note, Soapy rising horror the pit into which he had tumbled. 
ii. He understood his degraded days, unworthy desires, wrecked faculties and base motives that made up is existence. 
iii. A strong impulse ask him to better with his desperate fact. 
iv. He decided to conquer the away that had enslaved him. 
v. He was young yet so he would resurrect  his old eager ambitions and pursue then without faltering. This was  wonderful change in Soapy's mind. 
 
A.3. Explain the irony shown at the end of story.
Ans-i. The conjunction of Soapy's receptive state of mind and the influences of the atmosphere of the old Church brought a sudden and wonderful change in his mind. 
ii. She left the decision to go to the jail.
iii. At the same time policeman came. He arrested him. 
iv. He was sent into jail for lingering there without any reason. 
v. It is really an ironical situation because Soapy was sent to Jail at the time when he did not want to go there.
