Q. 1.Read the extract and complete the activities given below. (10 Marks)

2.4 Upon Westminister Bridge

Earth has not anything to show more fair................

And all that mighty hard is lying still! 

A. 1. Correct the following statements based on the extract.

1. The scenes described by the poet is that of a city filled with noise and full of people moving about on the streets.

Ans-The scenes described by the poet is that of a city that is silent without any people moving about on the streets.

2. The poet does not mention any man-made structures beside the bridge.

Ans- The poet mentions other man-made structures such as ships, towers, domes, theatres and temples. 

A.2. " The city now doth like a garment wear

 The beauty of the morning" 

Explain the line in the context of the extract.

Ans-The poet describes the sight of the city of London as he watches from the Westminister Bridge. He praises the beauty of watching the city in the early hours of the morning.

As the sun rises, the rays of the sun begin to cover the landscape, as if the mornings were a garment being worn by the city.Thus, according to the poet, the city seems to be fresh and calm.

A.3 Write down benefits of the bridge.

Ans-  The benefits of the bridge are as below -

- Bridge connects two harbours for easy commuting. 

- To By- pass traffic congestion on roads 

-To enjoy scenic beauty.

-Ease and safety of travel is closely related to upliftment of remote villages.

- Carry goods to sell in the nearby market.

A.4. Identify and explain the figure of speech in the following lines from the extract.

"Dull would he be of soul who could pass by"

Ans- Inversion

The words are not in the correct prose order. The correct prose order is " He could pass by would be of a dull soul". 

A 5. Compose four poetic lines using a rhyme scheme of abab to describe nature.

Ans- 

Nature gives pleasure

It makes me alive

There is no time for leisure

It always prefer to be alive

Q.2 Appreciation of the Poem

Title and the poet

The title of the poem is ‘ Nose Verses Eyes’ written by William Cowper. He was one of the most popular in 18th century English poet and his poems deal with Nature and everyday life. The title contains the sensory organs and they symbolize human behaviour.

Theme of the poem

It is funny and a satire on the human behaviour as well as the proceedings of the court where judgement is passed without careful consideration.

Poetic device

 The major figure of speech used here includes –Personification, Tautology, Simile, Alliteration, Imagery and Inversion. While inversion has been used to maintain the rhyme scheme and add to poetic effect, imagery helps to paint a vivid picture of the court setting in the minds of the readers. The highlight of the poem is the personification of the eyes, nose and the tongue. The characters assigned to each one of them are perfectly fitting and add to the humorous nature of the poem.

Eight stanzas present a mockery on judiciary system by using simple and complex sentences and a variety of punctuation. Each stanza consists of four lines. The first line rhymes with the third line and the second line rhymes with the fourth line. The rhyme scheme of the poem is abab and provides a song-like flow to the poem.

Special Features

 The poem presents a mild criticism of judiciary system in a humorous manner. To mock at blind justice is quite to tough job.

Message of the poem-/ Morals of the poem- In many occasions the claim of possessions is made by those who do not deserve it at all and the deserving one is deprived of what is his.

My opinion about the poem

 It was funny poem. It makes me laugh. It is a satire on the courtroom drama. I like very much. I enjoyed it.

Review of The Film - 3 Idiots

Introduction-

"3 Idiots" is a hindi film directed by Rajkumar Hirani and also co- written by him with Abhijat Joshi. It is based on Chetan Bhagat's novel ' Five point Someone '.

Aamir khan ( Rancho), R.Madhavan ( Farhan Qureshi ), Sharman Joshi ( Raju Rastogi ),Boman Irani ( Viru Sahastrabuddhe ), Mona Sing ( Mona), Kareena kapoor ( pia).

Genre - Comedy / Drama

Producer - Vidhu Vinod Chopra

Director - Rajkumar Hirani, one of the famous directors of Bollywood has directed this movie. He has already given several hits like Munnabhai MBBS, Lage raho Munnabhai, P.K. etc.

Music Director

Shantanu Moitra has added a true musical flavour to this film. The music of the songs like ' Zoobie Doobie', ' All izz well' and ' jane nahi denge tumhe ' etc.make the movie more melodious.

Choreography -

Avit Diaz has beautifully choreographed various songs in the movie especially the songs like ' Aal Izz well'.

The Storyline/Theme

The story revolves around three best friends trying to fulfill their parental expectations of becoming a successful engineer. It is a journey of the threeyoungsters trying to prove themselves in life amidst the over dominating nature of their teacher.

Dialogue - 

The serious yet humorous dialogues in the movie walks away with the best comic scenes of the year especially with the superhit dialogue ' All Izz well'.

Cinematography ( Setting/location) 

The streets of Delhi and the beauty of ladakh are captured by Muraleedharan C.K.

Message - 

The movie teaches us to always listen to our hearts and follow our passion. It passes on a message to lead our life simply the way we would like it to be.

Recommendation - 

I would strongly recommend everyone to go and watch this movie at least once as it motivates us to lead our life as per our wish. It motivates us to increase our confidence and lead our life towards success.
